For over 30 years, I have been dedicated to transforming lives through holistic health education. In 1992, I founded the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (IIN) with a radical idea—that food is about more than what we put into our bodies. What we feed our hearts, minds, and souls is also food.
As the Director and primary teacher at IIN for 30 years, I integrated diverse dietary theories into an innovative curriculum emphasizing bio-individuality and holistic well-being. Today, IIN has grown into the world’s largest nutrition school, empowering over 150,000 students and graduates across 175 countries.
When I started IIN, the field of health coaching did not even exist. I saw a major gap in our healthcare system–patients needed more personalized guidance and emotional support, but doctors were so rushed and overloaded that they only had time to address symptoms and prescribe medications. There was no space for listening deeply, getting to the root cause of health issues, and empowering patients to nourish themselves through diet and lifestyle changes.
Today, health coaching is a thriving $6 billion industry, as the healthcare system becomes more overwhelmed and more people seek to improve their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
IIN graduates are at the forefront of this movement, helping transform lives, communities, and global consciousness around health.
Additionally, I am the co-founder and CEO of Knew Health, a medical cost-sharing community providing an affordable alternative to traditional health insurance for wellness-focused individuals. I am also an advisor and angel investor in pioneering wellness companies including AgelessRx, Gotham Greens, and Bulletproof.
Passionate about philanthropy, I am involved in projects worldwide centering on principles of freedom, justice, and empowerment for disadvantaged groups.
I am the author of seven books, including the bestselling Integrative Nutrition:
A Whole-Life Approach to Health and Happiness.
My upcoming book, Heal the Healer, addresses the burnout epidemic facing many healers and caregivers today. In my journey, I noticed wellness professionals feeling increasingly exhausted, overworked, and overwhelmed. This begs the question: Who is healing the healer?
I realized that for helpers like me to keep impacting lives, there must be a shift—we must make healing ourselves a priority too. Heal the Healer is a guide for wellness professionals and caregivers who are ready to optimize their giving potential by first healing themselves.
